What DuPage County buildings need from access control

Corporate offices and campuses

Oak Brook, Downers Grove, Lisle, Naperville and Itasca are home to headquarters and regional offices with lobbies, elevators, parking structures and suites. We set up entry by department and floor, visitor check in at the front desk and lockdown from one screen.

Multi-tenant buildings

Property managers need common doors, garages and elevators on one system, with each tenant managing its own people. Cloud platforms let a building manager and a tenant admin each see only what they should.

Medical groups and clinics

Staff only corridors, medication rooms and records rooms need access by role and an audit trail, while patient entries stay welcoming during clinic hours.

Manufacturing and distribution

Plants and warehouses in Addison, Itasca, Wood Dale, Bensenville, Carol Stream and West Chicago need restricted zones, shift schedules, contractor badges and dock and gate control.

Schools, villages and park districts

Public buildings need lockdown from one button, visitor screening at the main office and schedules that change with the school year, events and elections.

Winter weather

Snow, ice and salt are hard on exterior doors and gates. We choose readers, enclosures and door hardware rated for Chicagoland winters and plan heaters or covers where needed.

Cards, fobs and phones can work side by side.

Access control platforms we install in DuPage County

We are not tied to one brand. We recommend the platform that fits your building, your IT team and the hardware already on your doors, and we can run more than one where a portfolio already has a mix.

Cloud or on premises access control?

Both are good choices. The right one depends on how many sites you run, who manages users and what your IT team wants to host.

Taking over an access control system another company installed

Many calls start the same way: the installer closed, sold the business or stopped answering, and no one has the admin login. We take over existing systems, and Brivo accounts in particular, without replacing hardware that still works.

  1. Confirm ownership. You show that the building owns the system, and we arrange the dealer or account change with the manufacturer.
  2. Inventory every door. Panels, readers, locks, power supplies, request to exit devices and door contacts are listed with model and condition.
  3. Clean up users and schedules. Former employees, temporary workers and old contractor badges are removed and schedules match how you actually work.
  4. Fix what is failing. Doors that show offline, forced or held are repaired first.
  5. Plan upgrades only where needed. You get a written plan that keeps working gear and replaces what is at end of life.

What a DuPage County installation includes

  1. Site survey. An engineer walks every opening, gate and garage entry, checks door frames and hardware and notes power, network and cable paths.
  2. Design. You get a door schedule that lists the reader, lock, contact and exit device for each opening, plus the platform and licensing.
  3. Cabling. Our crews run low voltage cable and network drops, including runs to garages, gates and outbuildings.
  4. Door hardware. Electric strikes, maglocks, electrified hardware, exit devices and readers are installed and tested for safe egress.
  5. Programming. Users, groups, shifts, holidays and alerts are set up and checked with your team.
  6. Training. Admins learn to add users, run reports and lock down doors. We leave written instructions.
  7. Support. Help desk, on site service and 24/7 system health and alert monitoring available, plus a 24/7 converged security NOC/SOC.

Every project is quoted in writing after the survey, with each door and license itemized. Financing at 3.99% is available for qualified buyers, subject to credit approval.

Illinois rules that shape an access control project

Safe egress

Locked doors must still let people out with one motion. Electrified locks, maglocks and delayed egress devices are designed to the building and fire codes your village has adopted, and we work with your contractor and the local fire district on approvals.

Biometric readers and BIPA

Fingerprint and face readers collect biometric data covered by the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act, which requires a written policy and consent. Most DuPage clients choose cards or mobile credentials instead; if you want biometrics, we follow the process your legal counsel sets.

Accessibility

Readers, intercoms and door operators are mounted at accessible heights under the Illinois Accessibility Code and ADA standards, and automatic openers are coordinated with access control so a badge or button opens the door.

Records you can show

Door events, user changes and admin actions are logged, so you can answer an auditor, insurer or investigator with facts.

Access control that works with your cameras, alarms and IT

A badge event means more with video beside it. We connect doors to security cameras in DuPage County so a denied badge or a forced door opens the matching clip, and we link access control with intrusion alarms so the building arms itself when the last person badges out.

Access control lives on your network, so it should be secured like the rest of your IT. Our IT team segments door controllers, keeps firmware current and watches for problems through the 24/7 NOC/SOC. If you also want IT support, see managed IT in DuPage County.

DuPage County access control: questions we hear

Who installs commercial access control systems in DuPage County?

BTI Communications Group, LTD. designs, installs and supports commercial access control for DuPage County businesses and public agencies from its Chicagoland office in Downers Grove, including Brivo, Avigilon Alta (formerly Openpath), Avigilon Unity, Kantech, RS2 and Axis.

Is BTI local to DuPage County?

Yes. Our Chicagoland office is at 1441 Branding Ave, Suite 200, Downers Grove, IL 60515, within about 13 miles of every DuPage city we serve in a straight line. Call 630-343-1322.

Can you take over our existing access control system?

Yes. After you confirm ownership, we arrange the dealer or account change with the manufacturer, inventory every door, clean up users and schedules and fix what is failing. BTI designs, sells, installs, supports and takes over existing Brivo accounts.

Can we use fingerprint or face readers in Illinois?

You can, but the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act requires a written policy and consent before biometric data is collected. Most clients choose cards or mobile credentials. If you want biometrics, we follow the process your legal counsel sets.

Do you install access control for multi-tenant buildings?

Yes. Common doors, garages and elevators run on one system, and each tenant can manage its own users where the platform supports it.

How is a DuPage County access control project quoted?

After a free site survey we send a written, itemized proposal that lists every door, device and license. Financing at 3.99% is available for qualified buyers, subject to credit approval.

Can we keep our existing door hardware?

Often. Many strikes, maglocks, exit devices and door contacts can stay. The survey shows which openings can reuse hardware and which need new readers or locks.

Can staff use their phones instead of badges?

Yes. Brivo, Avigilon Alta and Kantech all support mobile credentials, and cards and phones can work side by side during a phased switch.

Do you work with schools and public agencies?

Yes. BTI holds GSA contract 47QTCA21D00BA. Ask about cooperative purchasing options during your consultation.

What hardware holds up to Chicagoland winters?

We choose exterior readers, enclosures and door hardware rated for cold, snow and salt, and add heaters, covers or door sweeps where needed.
