IT Upgrade, Migration and Relocation Projects, Scoped and Delivered

Opening a new office, moving one, or replacing something Microsoft no longer supports? BTI scopes the project with an engineer, quotes every line, delivers it on one plan and hands you the documentation when it is done. Then you decide what happens next.

Every BTI project follows the same path: value engineering at no charge, scoping, delivery and commissioning, then managed support if you want it.

Start with the project in front of you

Most businesses do not shop for "IT services" in the abstract. They have a lease that starts in March, a server that is out of support, or 40 PCs that cannot run Windows 11. Pick the project and we will show you how it is planned, what it costs to deliver and what to watch for.

Project You are probably here if... What BTI delivers Go to
Relocation or expansion location You are relocating, opening an expansion location or expanding Internet, firewall, switching, a Wi-Fi upgrade (newer Wi-Fi reduces cable drops), building security, phones, WAN or SD-WAN, vendor coordination, domain names, cloud and contact center, pre-staged on one schedule. 3.99% vendor financing for the whole project, secured by the new equipment itself (qualified buyers, subject to credit approval) New Office & Relocation

Microsoft deadlines that are creating projects right now

These dates come from Microsoft's own lifecycle pages (checked October 25, 2026). After end of support, Microsoft stops shipping security fixes unless a paid Extended Security Updates program exists.

Product End of support What it means for a business
Windows 10 (Home, Pro, Enterprise, Education) October 14, 2025 (ended) PCs need Windows 11 or paid Extended Security Updates, which Microsoft sells to organizations for up to three years.
Exchange Server 2016 and 2019 October 14, 2025 (ended) On-site email servers should move to Microsoft 365 or a supported Exchange release.
Office 2016 and Office 2019 October 14, 2025 (ended) Desktop Office apps need Microsoft 365 Apps or a supported version.
Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2 October 10, 2023; paid ESU year 3 ended October 13, 2026 Anything still on these servers is unpatched. Move it first.
Windows Server 2016 January 12, 2027 Plan the migration now. Server projects need testing time before the deadline.
Windows Server 2019 January 9, 2029 In support, but include it in the next budget cycle.

How BTI runs an IT project

1

Free engineering consult

You tell us the goal, the date and what worries you. We tell you what we need to see. The first consultation and the initial IT assessment conversation are free. The assessment scope is set on the initial engineering consult call.

2

Assess what is really there

Inventory, network diagrams, licenses, who holds the admin passwords, which vendors are involved.

3

Design and itemized quote

A written scope and a proposal where every line (labor, equipment, licensing, carrier, construction) is priced on its own, so you can phase it.

4

Stage and test

Equipment is configured and tested before it reaches your site; migrations run in a pilot first.

5

Cutover

Scheduled around your business, with a rollback plan written before anything changes.

6

Document and hand off

As-built diagrams, passwords, licenses and a runbook, in your hands. Nothing is held hostage.

Land, expand, transform: how a project becomes the start of something better

Land

one project, delivered well. A new office, a migration, a firewall.

Expand

keep your IT person or team in charge and add BTI behind them with co-managed IT: help desk overflow, a 24/7 NOC/SOC and engineers for the next project. If you need people rather than a service, IT staff augmentation adds an engineer or help desk coverage under your direction.

Transform

when it makes sense, BTI runs IT end to end as fully managed IT, $60 to $290 per user per month, itemized. Managed clients come back here for the next project, so the cycle starts again.

You are never pushed from one step to the next. Each is a separate decision, priced on its own.

Not sure what the project should be?

Consulting zone

an IT assessment or infrastructure consulting turns "something is wrong" into a scoped plan and budget. See all IT consulting.

Cybersecurity zone

a cybersecurity assessment shows which gaps the project should close, and what your insurer will ask about. See all cybersecurity services.

Already have an IT provider?

Many clients bring us in for the new location first. If it goes well, we can take over the rest, or work alongside your team. See switching IT providers and co-managed IT.

Project partner, current MSP or do it yourself?

Question Do it in-house Ask your current MSP Bring in BTI for the project
Who plans cabling, network, phones and security together? Your staff coordinate several vendors Often IT only; low-voltage and security are subcontracted One team covers IT, cabling, phones, cameras, access control and alarms
Who carries the risk at cutover? Your team Your MSP, if it is in scope BTI, with a written rollback plan
What do you own at the end? Whatever was written down Varies by provider As-built documentation, passwords and licenses in your name
Best for Small, low-risk changes with staff time to spare Routine work your MSP already does well Moves, migrations and replacements with a deadline

What drives the cost of an IT project

  • Scope and size: users, devices, sites, mailboxes or servers.
  • Equipment: new switches, access points, firewalls, servers or PCs, and whether existing gear can be reused.
  • Licensing: Microsoft 365, Windows, security tools and support subscriptions.
  • Construction and carriers: cabling runs, building rules, internet circuit orders.
  • Timing: after-hours or weekend cutovers.

Every one of these is a separate line in BTI's proposal. 3.99% financing for the entire project, including labor and consulting, for qualified buyers, subject to credit approval is available.

Why businesses use BTI for projects

  • One team for IT and the building systems around it: network, Wi-Fi, phones, cameras, access control and alarms, so there is no gap between vendors on move day. Projects are value engineered at no charge.
  • We shop and manage every technology service for you, cutting cost, saving your team's time, and eliminating missed or prolonged handoffs between vendors.
  • Over 40 years in business and 400+ engineers, counting BTI's own engineers plus the 24/7 NOC/SOC and help desk staff who work as part of BTI's team.
  • Cisco Select Partner and Microsoft Partner. BTI designs and validates Wi-Fi with Ekahau.
  • ISO 27001 compliant governance, independently reviewed through the TAG ISO 27001 Compliance Program.

Glossary: the terms in this page, spelled out

MSP (managed service provider)
an outside company that runs some or all of your IT for a monthly fee. Examples: "Our MSP handles the help desk and patching." "We are switching MSPs after the move."
Co-managed IT
a shared model where your internal IT staff keep control and an outside provider adds tools, people or after-hours coverage under a written split of duties. Examples: Your IT manager keeps projects and vendors; BTI takes password resets and overnight alerts. A two-person IT team adds 24/7 monitoring without hiring a night shift.
EOL / EOS (end of life / end of support)
the date a vendor stops selling, patching or supporting a product. Examples: Windows Server 2016 reaches end of support on January 12, 2027. A firewall past EOL stops getting security signatures.
ESU (Extended Security Updates)
Microsoft's paid program that keeps security updates flowing to a product for a limited time after support ends. Examples: Windows 10 PCs that cannot move yet are enrolled in ESU. ESU buys time; it is not a plan.
M365 (Microsoft 365)
Microsoft's subscription suite: Exchange Online email, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive and Office apps. Examples: "We are moving email from GoDaddy to M365." "Store project files in SharePoint in M365."
MDF (main distribution frame)
the main network room or rack where the internet circuits, core switch and firewall live. Examples: "The fiber from the carrier lands in the MDF." "Put the new firewall in the MDF rack."
IDF (intermediate distribution frame)
a smaller network closet that serves one floor or wing and links back to the MDF. Examples: "Each floor gets an IDF with its own switch." "The camera cabling for the warehouse runs to IDF 2."
RPO / RTO (recovery point objective / recovery time objective)
how much data you can afford to lose and how long you can afford to be down. Examples: An RPO of one hour means backups at least hourly. An RTO of four hours means systems back within four hours.
Runbook
written steps for a task or recovery so anyone qualified can follow them. Examples: A runbook for restoring the file server. A cutover runbook lists every step and owner for move night.
vCIO (virtual chief information officer)
a part-time senior IT advisor who owns the technology roadmap and budget with leadership. Examples: The vCIO plans next year's PC refresh. Quarterly vCIO reviews track project progress.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as an IT project?

Any piece of IT work with a start, a finish and a defined result: opening or moving an office, moving email to Microsoft 365, replacing or moving servers, upgrading PCs to Windows 11, replacing a network or firewall, or building a server room. Day-to-day support is ongoing work, not a project.

Do we need a managed IT contract to hire BTI for a project?

No. Each project is scoped and quoted as its own itemized proposal. After go-live you can keep running IT yourself, add co-managed IT, or move to fully managed IT.

We already have an IT provider. Can BTI still do the project?

Yes. Many clients bring BTI in for a new location or a single migration first. BTI works with your current provider or internal IT team, and the responsibilities are written down before work starts.

How are IT projects priced?

Every project is quoted line by line: labor, equipment, licensing and any carrier or construction work, so you can see what each part costs and phase it if you need to. 3.99% financing for the entire project, including labor and consulting, for qualified buyers, subject to credit approval is available.

Which Microsoft deadlines should we plan around?

Windows 10 support ended October 14, 2025. Exchange Server 2016 and 2019 and Office 2016 and 2019 also reached end of support on October 14, 2025. Windows Server 2016 reaches end of extended support on January 12, 2027, and Windows Server 2019 on January 9, 2029. Dates are from Microsoft's lifecycle pages.

Where does BTI deliver IT projects?

From offices in Los Angeles (Santa Fe Springs) and Chicagoland (Downers Grove), and a Phoenix office colocated inside the Iron Mountain data center. Tucson is served through contractors. BTI also supports multi-site clients nationally.

What happens after the project is finished?

You get the documentation, passwords and diagrams for what was built. Then you choose: keep it in-house, add co-managed IT so your team stays in charge with BTI behind them, or hand day-to-day IT to BTI as fully managed IT.

Tell us the project and the date. An engineer will tell you what it takes. The first consultation and the initial IT assessment conversation are free. The assessment scope is set on the initial engineering consult call.

After go-live: keep your team in charge, add BTI where you need us.

Projects are where most relationships with BTI start. When the work is done, you choose what happens next: co-managed IT first, fully managed IT when it makes sense, and BTI back for your next project.

Recommended next step

Co-managed IT

Your IT person or team stays in charge. BTI adds the help desk, a 24/7 NOC/SOC and engineers for the next project, with a written responsibility matrix. Need people rather than a service? Add an engineer or help desk coverage through IT staff augmentation. See co-managed IT

Fully managed IT

BTI runs IT end to end for one itemized monthly price, $60 to $290 per user per month. Managed IT · Itemized pricing
