Why cloud-managed switching

One dashboard for every site

You see switches, stacks, ports and clients for every location in the Meraki dashboard, right next to your MX, MR and MV devices. A field visit is not needed for every change.

Zero-touch provisioning

-M Catalyst and MS switches are claimed by Cloud ID and pull their configuration from the cloud. No console staging is needed on site.

Remote troubleshooting

Live tools include ping, traceroute, cable testing, packet capture, per-port usage and LED blink, so many issues get fixed without a truck roll.

Safer firmware

Firmware upgrades run automatically on a schedule you control. Staged upgrades let you schedule, defer or roll back by switch group.

Built-in access security

Includes 802.1X/MAB, ACLs, group policies, DHCP snooping, Dynamic ARP Inspection and Adaptive Policy segmentation.

Alerts that reach you

Email, SMS and mobile push alerts cover port, PoE, stack and connectivity events. BTI can watch them for you.

These are the Meraki MS families Cisco currently sells. All are fully managed from the Meraki cloud.

Catalyst switches in the Meraki dashboard

For high-density access, aggregation and core, Cisco Catalyst 9000 switches run Cloud Management with IOS XE. You choose the configuration source. With cloud configuration, the Meraki dashboard and API configure the switch. With device configuration, you keep configuring from the CLI and use the dashboard for monitoring, troubleshooting and a write-capable Cloud CLI.

Stacking, monitoring & security

Stacking

Physical stacking with dedicated stack ports is available on MS150 and Catalyst 9300/L/X. StackPower pools power across C9300/C9300X stacks. Catalyst 9500 pairs use StackWise Virtual. Virtual stacking lets you manage thousands of ports as one logical switch.

Access control

802.1X and MAB access policies work with your RADIUS servers or with Cisco Access Manager, which provides cloud-native NAC without a separate RADIUS server. Also included: IPv4/IPv6 ACLs and group policy ACLs.

Segmentation

Adaptive Policy tags traffic with security groups such as "IoT" or "Guest" and enforces permit or deny between groups, with no IP-based ACL sprawl.

L2 protection

DHCP snooping, Dynamic ARP Inspection and broadcast storm control block rogue DHCP servers and ARP spoofing.

Port profiles & SmartPorts

Port profiles, now part of SmartPorts, apply consistent settings to AP, camera and phone ports across your sites.

Topology, live tools & alerts

Interactive topology, per-port and per-client history, ping, cable test, packet capture and email, SMS or push alerts. Firmware upgrades are scheduled and can be staged.

Cisco security tools in the Meraki dashboard

Your switches sit in the same dashboard as Cisco's security stack, so policy, visibility and response stay in one place.

MX threat protection

Snort IDS/IPS and Advanced Malware Protection (AMP) are included with Advanced Security licensing.

Meraki MX security appliances

Talos content filtering

URL and threat categories come from Cisco Talos, one of the largest commercial threat-intelligence teams.

Cisco Secure Connect (SASE)

Meraki SD-WAN plus Umbrella-powered cloud security, remote access and ZTNA. Duo can serve as the identity provider.

Cisco XDR

Connect XDR in the dashboard, send network telemetry, and view and manage XDR incidents.

Adaptive Policy & Access Manager

Group-based segmentation across switches, plus cloud-native network access control.

Air Marshal

Wireless intrusion detection and rogue AP containment on Meraki MR access points.

Meraki Wi-Fi

Systems Manager (MDM)

Manage iOS, Android, macOS, Windows and ChromeOS devices from the same dashboard.

MV cameras & MT sensors

Cloud-managed video security and environmental sensors that run on your PoE switch ports.

Meraki MV cameras

Splunk & ThousandEyes

Send Meraki data to Splunk with the Cisco Meraki Add-on, and run ThousandEyes agents on MX appliances.

How BTI deploys

  1. Design

We do a port count, PoE budget and uplink plan, and choose between MS and Catalyst. We also design VLAN, 802.1X and Adaptive Policy, size stacks and StackPower, and pick licensing tiers.

  2. Staging

We claim devices, build templates and port profiles, and pre-stage firmware, so switches arrive on site ready to plug in.

  3. Migration from legacy MS or Catalyst IOS

We replace EOS MS models, move Catalyst switches into the Meraki dashboard (cloud or device configuration), and get former Cloud Monitoring switches back online.

  4. Ekahau Wi-Fi design tie-in

Our Ekahau predictive and validation surveys set AP counts and mGig/PoE needs, so the switching matches your Wi-Fi 6E/7 plan.

  5. Monitoring & management

Optional managed service: alert monitoring, firmware governance, change requests and quarterly health reviews from our engineers.

Running older Meraki switches? Plan your refresh

Cisco has announced end-of-sale for MS120, MS125, MS210, MS225, MS250, MS350, MS355, MS390, MS410 and MS425. The MS450-12 reaches end-of-sale on October 29, 2026. Support continues until each model's end-of-support date (2029–2032), but no new units can be bought. Catalyst Cloud Monitoring ended March 31, 2026. BTI maps every legacy switch to an MS130, MS150 or Catalyst-M replacement, keeps your configuration, and schedules cutovers outside business hours.

Frequently asked questions

What Meraki MS switches are currently sold?

The MS130 (including the rugged MS130R) and the stackable MS150. For higher speeds, 90W PoE, aggregation or core, Cisco uses Catalyst 9200L-M, 9300-M, 9300L-M, 9300X-M and Catalyst 9500, all managed in the Meraki dashboard.

Can I manage my existing Catalyst switches in Meraki?

Yes. Catalyst 9200, 9300 and 9500 switches on IOS XE 17.15.3 or later can join the dashboard with device configuration. Supported models can also be migrated to full cloud configuration.

What's the difference between cloud configuration and device configuration?

With cloud configuration, the Meraki dashboard is the source of truth and the console CLI is blocked. With device configuration, the CLI stays authoritative and the dashboard adds monitoring, alerts, packet capture and a logged Cloud CLI.

My Catalyst switches were on Cloud Monitoring. What now?

Cloud Monitoring reached end-of-service on March 31, 2026, and those switches show as disconnected. They keep forwarding traffic. Moving them to device configuration restores dashboard visibility.

Do Meraki switches support 802.1X and segmentation?

Yes. Features include 802.1X/MAB access policies, ACLs, group policies, DHCP snooping and DAI. Adaptive Policy on MS150 and Catalyst-M adds group-based segmentation (Advanced license on Catalyst).

How fast can BTI quote a switch refresh?

Send us your site count, switch count and current platform. A network engineer replies within 1 business day with next steps for your design and quote.
