Relocation and Expansion Location IT: Infrastructure Upgrades on One Plan
Whether you are relocating or opening an expansion location, it is rarely just a move. For most businesses it is a relocation and infrastructure upgrade: internet, firewall, switching, upgraded Wi-Fi, building security, phones, WAN or SD-WAN, cloud and contact center, with every vendor coordinated and the domain names and DNS updated, pre-staged before anyone moves in. When each piece has its own vendor, the handoffs are where move day goes wrong. BTI plans and delivers the whole relocation or expansion on one schedule, with one team accountable.
We shop and manage every technology service for you, cutting cost, saving your team's time, and eliminating missed or prolonged handoffs between vendors.
Finance the whole project at 3.99%. BTI can arrange 3.99% vendor financing for the entire relocation or expansion, including equipment, labor and consulting, for qualified buyers, subject to credit approval.

3.99% Vendor Financing for Your Whole Relocation or Expansion
Relocations and expansion locations are capital intensive: network, Wi-Fi, security, phones, cabling and the labor to put it all in, usually at the same time as a new lease. Financing is often what lets the project go ahead.
One rate for the whole project
BTI can arrange 3.99% vendor financing for the entire project, including equipment, labor and consulting, for qualified buyers, subject to credit approval.
Compared with a bank loan
Many bank loans run 10% or more today and ask for far more collateral. Our vendor financing is secured by the new equipment itself.
Keep cash for the move
Spread the cost of the infrastructure upgrade instead of paying for it up front.
Proof
A recent client financed their full project at 3.99%.
Relocating or expanding?
| Your situation | What usually matters most |
|---|---|
| Opening an expansion location (second or new site) | Matching the standards of your first site: same network design, phones, camera and door systems, all managed from one place |
| Moving the whole office | Internet live before move-in, a tested cutover weekend and staff working on Monday |
| Expanding into more space in the same building | Extending cabling and Wi-Fi, adding switch capacity, adding doors and cameras without disrupting current staff |
| Building out a new space (tenant improvement) | Getting low-voltage cabling and equipment rooms into the construction drawings before the walls close |
| Consolidating or downsizing | Deciding what moves, what retires and how servers or files leave the old space securely |
What every relocation and expansion location involves
| Area | What BTI covers |
|---|---|
| Internet | Carrier options for the building, ordering, a backup circuit where it matters |
| Firewall | New or upgraded firewall, security policies matched to your other sites |
| Switching | Switches with the PoE capacity for access points, phones and cameras; VLANs |
| Wi-Fi | Wi-Fi upgrade designed and validated with Ekahau |
| Building security | Security cameras, access control and intrusion alarms |
| Phones | Phone system moved, extended or replaced; number porting |
| WAN or SD-WAN | Linking the site to your other locations and the cloud |
| Vendor coordination | Carriers, landlord, general contractor, movers and software vendors on one schedule |
| Domain name registrations | Domain registrations and DNS records checked and updated for email, website and phones |
| Cloud | Microsoft 365 and cloud services set up for the site and its users |
| Contact center | Call routing and agent setup for the new site where you run a contact center |
| And more | AV, cabling, racks and cabinets, printers and whatever else the space needs |

Value engineer, plan, deliver, commission, manage and adapt
We value engineer, plan, deliver, commission, manage and adapt. Doing all six as one team is what makes BTI different.
Value engineer
Before you commit, BTI looks for the lower-cost way to get the same result: what can be reused, what should be upgraded now, which carrier and equipment fit. At no charge.
Plan
One schedule for every system and vendor, with an itemized proposal.
Deliver
Cabling, network, Wi-Fi, security, phones and cloud installed and pre-staged before anyone moves.
Commission
Every system tested and documented before go-live, and BTI engineers on site on the first day, always.
Manage
After go-live, BTI can run it with your team through co-managed IT (add people through IT staff augmentation), or for you through fully managed IT.
Adapt
When you grow again, the next location, upgrade or project starts from documentation BTI already has. See IT Projects.
What is in the one-team bundle
| System | What BTI plans and installs | Learn more |
|---|---|---|
| Structured cabling | Data, Wi-Fi and camera drops, fiber between closets, labeling and testing, MDF and IDF build | Network installation |

Relocation or expansion, phase by phase
Every relocation and expansion is different, so BTI sets dates with you on the consult rather than publishing a standard timeline. The order of work, though, is consistent. Phases 4 to 6 overlap on most moves.
Before you sign the lease: walk the space
Carriers in the building, room for network equipment, power and cooling, reusable cabling, riser access, cell signal and landlord rules.
Once the lease is signed: order what takes longest
Internet circuits and any construction drawings for cabling and equipment rooms. Carrier lead times vary, so this comes first.
Design
Value engineering at no charge, then floor plan markups for every data drop, access point, camera and door; the network design; the phone plan; an itemized quote.
Build-out
Cabling while walls and ceilings are open, then racks, cabinets, power, switches, firewall, Wi-Fi, cameras, door readers and alarms.
Pre-stage what has to be in first
Fiber, internet, switches, firewall, upgraded Wi-Fi, new AV, access control, cameras and alarm go in and are tested before anything moves. For bigger moves and expansions, new network infrastructure is pre-staged, with cabling, racks and cabinets in place before the move.
Move: in stages or all at once
Depending on the situation, BTI relocates equipment and departments in phases or in one cutover, usually after hours, with a written rollback plan and an owner for every step. Small, time-sensitive equipment BTI moves itself after hours; other equipment is packed carefully for your movers, with BTI installers coordinated at the new site.
First day
BTI engineers on site, always, to help staff connect, print, call and badge in.
Close out
As-built drawings, cable labels, passwords and licenses handed to you. Old space cleared and old equipment wiped or recycled.

Opening an expansion location
A new expansion location should work like your first site. BTI builds it to the same standards (network design, security policies, phone system, camera and door systems) and manages both sites from the same tools, so users get the same experience and your team gets one view. Sites are linked with SD-WAN or site-to-site VPN, and each gets a backup internet circuit where it matters.
Planning before you build
Not sure yet what the new space needs? Infrastructure consulting designs the network before you commit, and a cybersecurity assessment makes sure the new site starts with the right security settings rather than copying old gaps.
Already have an IT provider?
Many clients bring us in for the new location first. If it goes well, we can take over the rest, or work alongside your team. See switching IT providers and co-managed IT.
What drives the cost of office relocation and expansion IT
- Size and layout: square footage, number of cable drops, access points, cameras and doors.
- Reuse versus replace: whether existing cabling, switches, phones or cameras can move.
- Building conditions: riser access, ceiling type, union or landlord requirements, after-hours rules.
- Carriers: circuit type, construction charges and a backup circuit.
- Pre-staging and phasing: how much has to be in place before the move, and whether departments move in stages or all at once.
- Timing: after-hours or weekend cutover.
Each item is a separate line in BTI's proposal so you can phase it, and BTI value engineers the plan at no charge. Moves are where financing helps most: BTI offers 3.99% vendor financing for the entire project, including equipment, labor and consulting, for qualified buyers, subject to credit approval.
Relocation and expansion location IT in your city
Los Angeles and Orange County
BTI's Southern California team works from Santa Fe Springs and handles moves and new locations across Los Angeles and Orange County, from single-floor office moves to multi-site expansions. Many of BTI's larger Los Angeles clients with on-premises systems colocate network equipment and servers in Phoenix for business continuity against earthquakes and other natural disasters in Southern California, with disaster recovery failover. A move is a good time to set that up: see managed data center hosting in Phoenix. Call the LA IT team at 323-510-8003. See network installation in Los Angeles, IP cameras in Los Angeles and access control in Los Angeles.
Chicagoland
From Downers Grove, BTI plans moves in the Loop and across the suburbs. In high-rises, freight elevator time, riser access and building engineer approvals are booked early, and cutovers are scheduled around the building's after-hours rules. Call the Chicagoland IT team at 312-492-2613. See network installation in Chicago, IP cameras in Chicago and access control in Chicagoland.
Phoenix and Tucson
BTI's Phoenix office is located at the Iron Mountain data center in Phoenix, where BTI offers managed data center hosting with smart hands, co-managed monitoring and support, and disaster recovery failover. Heat is the local risk for network closets, so cooling and power for equipment rooms are part of every Phoenix design. Call the Phoenix team at 480-272-8728; Tucson moves are delivered through contractors. See network installation in Phoenix and Tucson, IP cameras in Phoenix and Tucson and access control in Phoenix.

Glossary: the terms in this page, spelled out
- MDF (main distribution frame)
- the main network room or rack where the internet circuits, core switch and firewall live. Examples: "The fiber from the carrier lands in the MDF." "Put the new firewall in the MDF rack."
- IDF (intermediate distribution frame)
- a smaller network closet that serves one floor or wing and links back to the MDF. Examples: "Each floor gets an IDF with its own switch." "The camera cabling for the warehouse runs to IDF 2."
- Cat 6 / Cat 6A (Category 6 / Category 6 Augmented cabling)
- common grades of copper network cable. Cat 6A supports 10 gigabit speeds over longer runs. Examples: Desk drops are often Cat 6. Wi-Fi access points are often cabled with Cat 6A for future speed.
- PoE (Power over Ethernet)
- power and data delivered over one network cable. Examples: Wi-Fi access points, desk phones and IP cameras are often PoE powered. "We need a bigger PoE switch to run 40 cameras."
- ISP (internet service provider)
- the carrier that delivers your internet circuit. Examples: "Order the ISP circuit as soon as the lease is signed." "We have two ISPs for failover."
- SD-WAN (software-defined wide area network)
- a way to link sites and manage several internet circuits as one, steering traffic to the best path. Examples: Branch offices connect to headquarters over SD-WAN. If one circuit fails, SD-WAN moves calls to the other.
- VPN (virtual private network)
- an encrypted connection across the internet between a user or site and your network. Examples: Two offices share files over a site-to-site VPN. A remote worker connects to the office through a VPN.
- VLAN (virtual local area network)
- a way to split one physical network into separate logical networks. Examples: Guests, cameras and staff each get their own VLAN. "Put the phones on the voice VLAN."
- Wi-Fi survey
- measuring and modeling wireless coverage before and after an install. BTI designs and validates Wi-Fi with Ekahau. Examples: A predictive survey from the floor plan places access points before move-in. A validation survey proves coverage after install.
- UPS (uninterruptible power supply)
- a battery unit that keeps equipment running through short power losses and lets it shut down cleanly. Examples: The UPS rides through a 10 second outage. "Size the UPS for the new switches."
- VoIP (voice over internet protocol)
- phone calls carried over a data network instead of traditional phone lines. Examples: Desk phones plug into the network like computers. A VoIP system lets staff take office calls on a mobile app.
- Runbook
- written steps for a task or recovery so anyone qualified can follow them. Examples: A runbook for restoring the file server. A cutover runbook lists every step and owner for move night.
Frequently asked questions
What are IT relocation services?
Planning and delivering the technology side of moving an office or opening an expansion location: structured cabling, the network and firewall, Wi-Fi, internet circuits, phones, security cameras, access control and intrusion alarms, plus moving or replacing servers and PCs and having engineers on site for staff on the first day.
How early should we start planning the IT for an office move?
As soon as you are comparing spaces, before you sign the lease. Internet circuits, cabling and building approvals usually take the longest to line up, and carrier lead times vary by building and provider.
What should we check before signing a lease?
Which internet carriers already serve the building, whether there is a room or closet for network equipment with power and cooling, whether existing cabling can be reused, how cabling reaches your floor, cell signal inside the space, and the landlord's rules for after-hours work. BTI can walk the space with you.
Can BTI handle cabling, phones, cameras and door access as well as IT?
Yes. BTI designs and installs structured cabling, networks and Wi-Fi, business phones, IP cameras, access control and intrusion alarms, so one team owns the schedule and there are no gaps between vendors.
Do we need managed IT to use BTI for a move or a new location?
No. The relocation or expansion is scoped and quoted as its own project. If you want ongoing support afterward, co-managed or fully managed IT is a separate, itemized option.
We already have an IT provider. Can BTI do just the new location?
Yes. Many clients bring us in for the new location first. BTI works with your current provider or internal IT team, and who does what is written down before work starts.
How much does office relocation IT cost?
It depends on the size of the space, how many cable drops, access points, cameras and doors are needed, what equipment can be reused, and whether work happens after hours. Every item is a separate line in BTI's proposal, and BTI value engineers the plan at no charge. 3.99% vendor financing for the entire project, including equipment, labor and consulting, for qualified buyers, subject to credit approval.
Can we finance the whole relocation project?
Yes. BTI can arrange 3.99% vendor financing for the entire project, including equipment, labor and consulting, for qualified buyers, subject to credit approval. Relocations and expansion locations are capital intensive. Many bank loans run 10% or more today and ask for far more collateral. Our vendor financing is secured by the new equipment itself. Ask on your free consultation.
Is the office move checklist free?
Yes. The two-page Relocation and Expansion Location Checklist, BTI's office relocation checklist, is a free download with no form to fill out.
What does a new expansion location need?
The same things a relocation does: internet, firewall, switching, Wi-Fi, building security (cameras, access control and alarms), phones, WAN or SD-WAN back to your other sites, vendor coordination, domain name registrations and DNS, cloud services and, where you have one, contact center routing. BTI builds it to the standards of your existing sites so it is managed the same way.
Is an office relocation really an infrastructure upgrade?
Usually. Most businesses replace or upgrade network equipment and Wi-Fi when they move, and newer Wi-Fi can reduce the number of cable drops. Planning the office relocation as an infrastructure upgrade means the new equipment is pre-staged and tested before anyone moves.
