Every camera is placed on a plan before anything is mounted

Most camera complaints trace back to design: a lens too wide to identify a face at the door, a parking lot camera blinded by headlights, a loading dock with a blind spot between doors. We start every the Fox Valley project with a site walk and a written design.

You see the coverage map, the camera list and the recording plan before you approve anything. That is also the document your insurer, landlord or auditor can review.

  • Pixel density planned for identification at entries and overview across lots and docks
  • Glare, headlights, snow and winter light checked for every exterior view
  • Retention set by camera, so storage matches your policy
  • Pole, wall and roof mounts, cable paths and lift needs priced up front

Choosing the right camera for each area

One camera model rarely fits a whole site. This is how we usually match cameras to the places Fox Valley organizations need to watch.

AreaGoalTypical camera
Main entries and lobbiesIdentify every person who entersFixed dome or bullet with a narrow field of view at face height
Parking lots and garagesSee activity across a wide areaMultisensor or panoramic camera on a pole, roof edge or garage ceiling

Camera and video platforms we install in the Fox Valley

We choose the platform per site, not per vendor. Many Fox Valley buildings already have cameras on the wall, and we keep the ones that still perform.

Analytics, plate recognition and talk down

Modern cameras do more than record. We set up the analytics each site needs and tune them so alerts stay useful instead of noisy.

  • Person and vehicle detection on fence lines, lots and after hours parking
  • Forensic search by object type, color, direction and time
  • License plate recognition at gates, garages and lot entries
  • Horn speakers and live or recorded talk down to warn people off a site
  • Line crossing and loitering alerts sent to a phone or a monitoring center
  • AI added to existing cameras where the hardware supports it

Want help after hours? 24/7 system health and alert monitoring available, plus a 24/7 converged security NOC/SOC. See Axis audio and talk down and Axis radar.

The network and cybersecurity most camera installers skip

Cameras are computers on your network. A camera system with default passwords and open ports is a way into the rest of the business. Because BTI is also an IT and cybersecurity provider, we design camera networks the way your IT team would.

  • Cameras on their own VLAN, separated from office computers
  • Unique credentials, current firmware and no open inbound ports
  • PoE switches and outdoor enclosures sized for the cameras, the heat and future growth
  • Wireless or fiber links to poles, gates and guard shacks where trenching is not practical
  • Health monitoring so a dead camera is found before you need its footage

Need more than cameras? See managed IT in the Fox Valley and cybersecurity in the Fox Valley.

Illinois rules for business video

Audio needs care

The Illinois Eavesdropping Act (720 ILCS 5/14) restricts recording private conversations without the consent of all parties. We leave audio recording off by default and use speakers for talk down instead of microphones where privacy is a concern.

Face recognition and BIPA

Face recognition features can collect biometric data covered by the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act. We leave them off unless your legal counsel approves a written policy and consent process.

Places cameras cannot go

Illinois law (720 ILCS 5/26-4) bars video recording in restrooms, locker rooms and changing rooms. Privacy masks keep other sensitive areas out of view.

Retention and access

We set how long footage is kept, who can export it and how exports are logged, so you can show how video is controlled.

NDAA compliant hardware

Government buyers and federal contractors can choose cameras and recorders that meet Section 889 of the NDAA.

Public sector contracts

Upgrading an older camera system

Many Fox Valley buildings still run analog or early IP cameras on an aging recorder. A full rip and replace is rarely needed.

  • Replace the recorder first and keep IP cameras that still meet image and security standards
  • Use encoders to bring working analog cameras onto a new platform during a phased upgrade
  • Reuse existing cable where testing shows it can carry PoE
  • Upgrade entries, lots and docks first, where image quality matters most

Work close to home

BTI has installed Avigilon cameras and Avigilon Alta (formerly Openpath) access control for clients in Downers Grove, a few minutes from our office, and Axis cameras for a Chicagoland Ford dealership.

Case study: Gjovik Ford, Plano, IL

Gjovik Ford wanted "a very high-security camera system" at its new 34,000-square-foot dealership in Plano. BTI delivered integrated video surveillance with door and gate access control that monitors vehicles as they enter and exit and documents existing or new damage. LPR video retrieval lets service writers pull footage by license plate. The dealership has reduced damage claims by 75%.

"The smart cameras allow us to retrieve video by license plates to instantly show customers their before and after car condition which builds trust and understanding between our service writers and clients."
Todd O'Reilly, Co-Owner and General Manager, Gjovik Ford

  • Aurora
  • North Aurora

Batavia, Geneva and St. Charles: the Tri-Cities

Kirk Road industrial parks, Route 31 and Randall Road offices mix manufacturing, professional services and medical groups. We plan cabling, entry access and video around the building rather than a one-size-fits-all package.

Fox Valley security cameras: questions we hear

Who installs commercial security camera systems in the Fox Valley?

BTI Communications Group, LTD. designs and installs commercial camera systems from its Downers Grove office. Call 630-343-1322.

Who installs commercial security cameras in Aurora and Batavia?

BTI Communications Group, LTD. designs and installs commercial security camera systems for Aurora, Batavia and North Aurora warehouses, plants and offices from our Downers Grove office. We are an Authorized and Certified Axis Gold Partner, hold Illinois license 127.001638, and have been in business for over 40 years.

How long does a security camera installation take?

Most projects follow a free site assessment, a written coverage design and proposal, then a scheduled install. Install time depends on camera count, cabling paths and lift work, and we plan around your hours so the site stays open.

Can you replace an old DVR or analog camera system?

Yes. We can replace the recorder first, keep working cameras through encoders and phase in IP cameras where image quality matters most.

Does BTI have an office in the Fox Valley?

No. Our Chicagoland office is in Downers Grove, about 16 miles from Aurora. Crews, lifts and replacement cameras leave from there.

Can you cover large warehouse yards and truck lots?

Yes. Multisensor cameras on poles and roof edges cover wide yards with fewer mounts, plate recognition logs every truck at the gate and analytics flag people or vehicles in the yard after hours.

Is BTI an Axis partner?

Yes. BTI is an Authorized and Certified Axis Gold Partner.

Do you design the system before installation?

Yes. Every commercial camera project starts with a site walk and a coverage design so placement, storage and network load are clear before install.

Can you take over an existing camera system?

Yes. We keep cameras and recorders that still work, replace what does not, and bring viewing and alerts onto a supported platform.

Is BTI licensed in Illinois?

Yes. Illinois license 127.001638.

Do cameras work with access control?

Yes. We often pair cameras with access control so a door event opens the matching video clip.

How is a camera project quoted?

After a free site assessment we send a written scope with camera counts, storage and network notes.

Do you support remote viewing?

Yes. Authorized users can view live and recorded video from a browser or phone, with MFA and role based access.

Do you work with schools and public agencies?

Yes. BTI holds GSA contract 47QTCA21D00BA and designs camera systems for districts and public buildings.
