OpenEye Hybrid Cloud Video Surveillance for Business
Hybrid cloud video gives you the speed and storage of local recording with the convenience of cloud management. With OpenEye, video records on site and the whole system is managed, searched and shared through OpenEye Web Services. BTI designs the mix of recorders, cloud cameras and existing cameras that fits each of your locations.
Commercial work only: BTI designs, installs and supports OpenEye hybrid systems for businesses and commercial properties. We do not serve homes.

Video: OWS Architecture: A Flexible and Scalable Security Solution (OpenEye, November 2024, 1:39)
Three ways to build an OpenEye system
| Architecture | How it records | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Recorder based | Cameras stream to an OpenEye cloud-managed appliance or server on site | Larger camera counts, long retention, sites with limited upload bandwidth |
| Cloud camera | Each OpenEye cloud camera records on board and runs its own analytics | One or two cameras at small sites, or adding cameras without adding a recorder |
| Hybrid mix | Recorders and cloud cameras in the same OWS account | Multi-site organizations with sites of different sizes |
OpenEye describes its cloud cameras as a camera, recorder and AI engine in one, suitable for one or two cameras or hundreds per location, and installable standalone or alongside existing recorders.
Why local recording still matters
Streaming every camera to the cloud around the clock takes a lot of upload bandwidth. Recording locally keeps full-quality video on site, while OWS handles viewing, search, alerts and sharing over the internet. Clips you save or share live in the cloud, with storage allowances set by your OWS license tier.
Upgrade the cameras you already own
You do not have to replace every camera to move to the cloud. OpenEye's retrofit approach connects compatible existing IP cameras to OWS through an OpenEye appliance. BTI reviews your current cameras, confirms which are compatible, and replaces only what needs replacing.

Scaling across locations
Every cloud camera brings its own storage and analytics processing, so adding cameras does not overload a recorder. Every recorder joins the same OWS account. That mix lets a flagship site run a RAID server while a small satellite office runs two cloud cameras, with both managed from one screen.

How BTI designs a hybrid system
- Inventory: list every existing camera, recorder and network switch, and check compatibility
- Bandwidth check: measure upload capacity at each site
- Retention math: size local storage for the number of days you need to keep
- Architecture choice: recorder, cloud camera or both, site by site
- Install and connect: mount, cable, register to OWS and test every stream
- Support: health alerts, service and expansion handled by BTI
Pricing is scoped to each client's needs. Because hybrid designs reuse some equipment, quotes vary widely from site to site. Request a quote through the consultation form.

FAQs
Does BTI install OpenEye for homes?
No. Hybrid OpenEye systems from BTI are for businesses and commercial properties only; residential work is outside what we do.
What is hybrid cloud video surveillance?
It stores footage on site and runs management through the cloud. In an OpenEye system, recorders or cloud cameras keep the video locally and OWS provides remote access, search, alerting and clip sharing.
Is OpenEye hybrid or fully cloud?
OpenEye supports both. Recorders give local storage with cloud management, and cloud cameras record on board. Many systems combine the two.
Can I keep my current cameras?
Often. Many IP cameras already on your walls can stay. BTI checks each model.
Do I need a recorder with OpenEye cloud cameras?
No. OpenEye cloud cameras record on board and connect directly to OWS. They can also be added to sites that already have recorders.
How much internet bandwidth does hybrid cloud video need?
Less than streaming everything to the cloud, because video records locally. BTI measures upload capacity at each site during the assessment and designs around it.
How long is video kept?
Retention depends on local storage size, camera count, resolution and recording settings. BTI sizes storage to the number of days you need.
Can hybrid systems run at multiple locations?
Yes. Each site can use a different mix of recorders and cloud cameras, and all of them sit in one OWS account.
Will hybrid video still record if the internet goes down?
Local recorders and cloud cameras record on site, so recording continues without internet. Remote viewing and cloud alerts resume when the connection returns.
Is hybrid cloud video more affordable than a full replacement?
It can be, because compatible cameras stay in service. BTI quotes both options side by side so you can compare.
