Milestone XProtect Video Management in Los Angeles

BTI is a Milestone Advanced Partner. Our Southern California engineers design, license, install and support XProtect for public agencies, healthcare groups, schools and manufacturers in LA and Orange counties, the Inland Empire and Ventura County, and they stay on the account long after commissioning.

  • Existing XProtect system takeovers
  • Axis and open platform camera integration
  • BriefCam video search and analytics

What a Milestone project with our LA team includes

From a single lobby camera upgrade in Long Beach to a federated system spanning dozens of Inland Empire sites, the steps stay the same.

Site survey and camera schedule

We walk the property, mark each field of view, note lighting and mounting, and list which existing cameras can be reused before any license is quoted.

Licensing that fits the plan

Base server and device licenses are quoted per camera, with Milestone Care shown on its own line so annual renewals never surprise accounting.

Recording architecture

Recording servers, failover and storage are designed around your retention target. For larger estates, Federated Architecture on XProtect Corporate lets regional sites run independently while headquarters sees everything.

Integrations

XProtect connects to Axis cameras, intercoms and audio, to BriefCam for video search, and to access control and intrusion events so an alarm arrives with its video attached.

Video wall and operator training

Operators learn Smart Client, maps, bookmarks and evidence export, and supervisors get Smart Wall layouts for their control rooms.

Inherited a Milestone system in Southern California?

Building sales, mergers and integrator turnover leave many LA-area organizations with XProtect but nobody to call. BTI can step in on the system you already have. We gather license details, confirm Milestone Care status, audit every recording server and camera, and close the gaps that put evidence at risk.

  • Software license and Milestone Care review
  • Planned XProtect upgrades with a tested rollback path
  • Retention, storage and failover checks
  • Phased replacement of aging cameras
  • 24/7 system health and alert monitoring available, plus a 24/7 converged security NOC/SOC

After-hours emergencies are handled through 800-HELP-BTI, and our Santa Fe Springs office books planned visits at 562-298-5000.

Public retirement system, Southern California

A county retirement system replaced a legacy security vendor with BTI at its headquarters. Milestone video now runs on one platform with door access and intrusion alarms, staff can reach all three systems from their phones, a two-year video retention option was scoped, and older cameras are being retired in phases.

Network repair at a large Torrance facility

A large facility near Torrance brought BTI in when network faults kept knocking its connected systems offline. Our engineers found the causes and rebuilt the affected network so video and other systems stayed up.

What's new in Milestone XProtect for Los Angeles systems

Milestone ships XProtect in regular R releases. These 2025 and 2026 changes are the ones our Santa Fe Springs engineers put to work most.

XProtect 2026 R2

Released in October 2026, R2 brings Sticky Notes, new Server Logs and Permission Inheritance. Remote Manager health monitoring comes through Milestone Care Plus.

XProtect 2026 R1

Operators can now log an alarm reason and note on access control events, and the note syncs back to the door system. Device Pack 14.1 lifts support past 16,300 devices.

Doors on the Smart Map

Since 2025 R2, readers, doors, gates and turnstiles can be placed on the Smart Map, so an LA control room clears door alarms in the same view as its cameras.

Hybrid cloud through Arcules

With the Arcules plug-in, Professional+, Expert and Corporate systems gain camera-to-cloud recording, long-term cloud storage and cloud backup for edge gateways.

Evidence Manager

Outside parties such as insurers or counsel get video through a secure link with no viewer license, and evidence can be stored on site, in the cloud or both.

AI clip summaries

Milestone's Hafnia vision language model adds a Video Summarization plug-in for Smart Client that writes a plain description of what a clip shows.

Buyer's guide to Milestone XProtect in Los Angeles

A Los Angeles XProtect project tends to follow the same path, whether it is one building in Downey or a dozen sites across the basin.

  1. Set the goal. Decide what each camera must prove, such as faces at a lobby or plates at a gate
  2. Set retention. Agree on how many days of video policy, insurers or legal counsel require
  3. Size servers. Recording servers and storage are sized to camera count, bitrate and that retention target
  4. Choose the edition. Match an XProtect edition to site count and failover needs
  5. Install and tune. Mount cameras, build Smart Client views and test exports
  6. Support. Our NOC watches recorder health and Milestone Care dates after go-live

Which XProtect edition fits an LA organization?

XProtect Express+A single building such as a clinic or branch officeOne recording server
XProtect Professional+Several buildings run by one teamMultiple recording servers with central management

We confirm the right edition after the survey, based on camera count, sites and uptime needs.

California rules that shape video projects

Video design in California has a few legal edges worth planning around. We point them out; your counsel makes the final call.

Audio recording

California Penal Code 632 generally requires consent from all parties to record a confidential conversation, so we leave camera audio off unless your counsel approves it.

Mounting and egress

Cameras and cabling must not block exit paths or required clearances under the California Building Code. Ceiling penetrations follow the building's AHJ rules.

Licensing

BTI holds California Alarm Company Operator license ACO #7670 and C7 License 807767.

Security Systems by Industry

Video, access control and alarm systems designed around the risks and rules of your industry.

Milestone XProtect in Los Angeles: common questions

Can you service a Milestone system installed by another company?

Yes. With the software license code and admin access, we review versions, licenses and recording health, then propose a support plan. Nothing is changed until you approve it.

Which cameras work with XProtect?

XProtect is an open platform. Axis and most other ONVIF cameras are supported through Milestone device packs, and each model on your site is verified before we reuse it.

Can XProtect connect our sites in LA, Orange County and the Inland Empire?

Yes. XProtect Corporate supports Milestone Federated Architecture, and Milestone Interconnect is available on the paid editions, so each site records locally while a central team views and searches across all of them.

How do we search hours of footage quickly?

Smart Client bookmarks and metadata search help, and BriefCam analytics can be added to filter by object, color or direction across many cameras at once.

Where in Southern California does BTI install XProtect?

Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties. Illinois and Arizona locations are handled by our offices in those states.

Can California public agencies purchase through a contract vehicle?

Yes. California buyers can use BTI's CMAS and TESMA awards, and federal or other buyers can use GSA contract 47QTCA21D00BA.

Can BTI monitor the system after installation?

Yes. Optional health monitoring flags a recording server, disk or camera that stops reporting, and our converged security NOC/SOC sees those alerts day and night.

Which XProtect edition should a Los Angeles business choose?

Single buildings usually fit Express+, several sites fit Professional+, sites that need failover recording move to Expert, and estates that need full federation choose Corporate. We confirm the right one after counting cameras and sites.

Can operators control doors from XProtect?

Yes. With an access control integration such as Brivo or Software House C-CURE 9000 and XProtect Access licenses, doors show on the Smart Map, door alarms arrive with video and operators can act on doors inside Smart Client.

Can you record audio with our cameras in California?

Audio raises consent issues under California law, so we keep it off by default and enable it only where your counsel signs off.

Is the free XProtect edition still available?

No. Milestone discontinued its free entry level edition with XProtect 2025 R2. LA sites still running it can move to Express+ or Professional+, and we can plan that upgrade around the cameras you already own.

Can our XProtect system record to the cloud?

Yes, as a hybrid. The Arcules plug-in lets Professional+, Expert and Corporate send video to the cloud for off-site retention and backup, while your LA servers keep recording on site.

How can we share video with an insurer or attorney?

XProtect Evidence Manager sends evidence by secure link, so people outside your organization can view it without installing software or buying a license.
