How BTI sizes an OpenEye recorder
| Question | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| How many cameras now and in 3 years? | Sets the channel count and whether upgrade options are needed |
| How many days must video be kept? | Drives storage size along with resolution and frame rate |
| Can the site tolerate a drive failure? | RAID models keep recording through a failed drive |
| Windows or Linux? | Some models offer both. Linux suits dedicated appliances |
| Rack, shelf or wall? | 2U and 3U servers need a rack; appliances fit small closets |
Health monitoring that protects your footage
Every OWS license includes active health monitoring. OWS alerts you to pending hard drive failure, changes in recording retention, network outages and camera failure or tampering, so problems surface before you need the video. BTI can receive those alerts and respond.

Warranty
OpenEye's warranty page lists 5 years on recorders sold from October 1, 2025, with a one-year advance replacement program that requires a security deposit (OpenEye warranty). BTI handles warranty coordination for systems we install.
OpenEye recorder pricing
Pricing is scoped to each client's needs. OpenEye does not publish recorder list prices, and storage configurations change the price a lot, so BTI quotes the exact model and drive size for your channel count and retention. Request a quote through the consultation form.

FAQs
Does BTI install OpenEye for homes?
No. BTI sizes and installs OpenEye recorders only for businesses and commercial properties, with no residential installs.
What is an OpenEye NVR?
It is a cloud-managed appliance or server that stores IP camera footage on site and uses OWS for remote access, search, alerting and health checks.
Which OpenEye recorder do I need?
It depends on camera count, retention and redundancy. Appliances such as the OE-MC and OE-MD handle up to 24 channels; servers such as the OE-MK and OE-MH handle 96 to 128 channels.
Does OpenEye make a recorder with built-in PoE?
Yes. The OE-MD Gen 3 has built-in PoE, with 8 and 16 port versions.
What is the largest OpenEye server?
The OE-MH Gen 3 supports up to 256TB of storage and 96 channels, and the OE-MH-RAID Gen 3 supports up to 128 channels with 192TB (168TB usable).
Do OpenEye recorders run Windows or Linux?
Appliances run Linux. Many servers offer Windows or Linux, and the OE-MT and OE-MM run Linux with Windows optional.
Is an OpenEye DVR the same as an NVR?
Older OpenEye DVRs recorded analog cameras. Current OpenEye recorders are cloud-managed NVRs and servers.
Do OpenEye recorders need an OWS license?
Yes. Each recording channel needs an OWS license. See our licensing page for the tiers.
How much does an OpenEye NVR cost?
There is no public OpenEye recorder price list. Your quote depends on the model, drive size and license tier.
What warranty comes with OpenEye recorders?
Five years for recorders sold on or after October 1, 2025, plus a one-year advance replacement program. Products bought through unauthorized channels are not covered, which is one reason to buy through an authorized reseller such as BTI.
