Windows 10 to 11 Upgrade and PC Refresh, Planned Device by Device
Windows 10 is out of support, and some of your PCs cannot run Windows 11. BTI checks every device, upgrades the ones that qualify, replaces the ones that do not, and sets up new PCs so they are secured and managed from the first sign-in.

Value engineer, scope, deliver, commission, then managed support
Value engineer, at no charge
Upgrade what still has life in it, replace only what has to go, and match each user to the right device.
Scope
Every PC checked against the Windows 11 requirements, with an upgrade or replace list and an itemized proposal.
Deliver
In-place upgrades and new PCs rolled out in groups, set up through Intune and Windows Autopilot.
Commission
Applications, printers and sign-ins tested, BitLocker on, the asset list updated, and old drives wiped to a documented standard.
Managed support
After the rollout, BTI can patch and manage devices with your team through co-managed IT (add people through IT staff augmentation), or for you through fully managed IT.
Finance 100% of your PC refresh
New PCs, licensing and the labor to deploy them can come due at once. BTI can arrange 3.99% vendor financing for 100% of the project, including equipment, labor and consulting, for qualified buyers, subject to credit approval. Many bank loans run 10% or more today and ask for far more collateral. Our vendor financing is secured by the new equipment itself.
Will your PCs run Windows 11?
Microsoft's minimum requirements:
- Processor: 1 GHz or faster, two or more cores, on Microsoft's list of compatible 64-bit processors.
- Memory: 4 GB or more. Storage: 64 GB or more.
- Firmware: UEFI, Secure Boot capable. Security chip: TPM version 2.0.
- Graphics: DirectX 12 compatible with a WDDM 2.0 driver. Display: 720p, larger than 9 inches.
Source: Microsoft, "Windows 11 requirements" (learn.microsoft.com, checked October 25, 2026). Meeting the minimum is not the same as being fast enough for your staff, so BTI also looks at age, warranty and performance.
Upgrade or replace?
| PC condition | Usually | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Meets requirements, under about four years old, healthy | In-place upgrade | Keeps apps and files; lowest cost |
| Meets requirements but slow, out of warranty or failing | Replace | Upgrading a slow PC moves the problem to Windows 11 |
| Does not meet requirements (no TPM 2.0 or unsupported processor) | Replace | Microsoft does not support Windows 11 on it |
| Needed for one legacy application only | Isolate, ESU as a bridge, or Windows 365 | Buys time while the application is replaced |
| Contractors or seasonal staff | Windows 365 Cloud PC | No hardware to ship or recover |
How BTI runs a Windows 11 rollout
Inventory
Every PC, its specifications, age, warranty, user and applications.
Test
Line-of-business applications, printers, scanners and VPN tested on Windows 11 with a pilot group.
Prepare
Intune and Autopilot configured, security baselines and BitLocker set, licensing checked (Windows 11 Pro or Enterprise, Microsoft 365 Apps).
Roll out in groups
Upgrades scheduled around your staff; new PCs shipped or delivered ready to sign in.
Support
Help desk ready for the questions that come with a new PC.
Retire
Old devices wiped, the asset list updated, and devices reused, recycled or disposed of.
Make it a technology refresh, not a one-time scramble
A PC refresh is the right time to set up a refresh cycle so you are not here again in a few years: a standard device list, a replacement plan by age, and devices enrolled in Intune so patching and security policies are automatic. The same planning applies to monitors, docks, phones and conference rooms.
What drives the cost
- Number of PCs, and how many need replacing rather than upgrading.
- Device choices and accessories.
- Application testing and any legacy software that needs a workaround.
- Licensing (Windows 11 Pro or Enterprise, Microsoft 365 Apps).
- Delivery method: shipped to homes, set up in the office, or both.
Each item is a separate line in the proposal. BTI can arrange 3.99% vendor financing for 100% of the project, including equipment, labor and consulting, for qualified buyers, subject to credit approval.

Glossary: the terms in this page, spelled out
- EOL / EOS (end of life / end of support)
- the date a vendor stops selling, patching or supporting a product. Examples: Windows Server 2016 reaches end of support on January 12, 2027. A firewall past EOL stops getting security signatures.
- ESU (Extended Security Updates)
- Microsoft's paid program that keeps security updates flowing to a product for a limited time after support ends. Examples: Windows 10 PCs that cannot move yet are enrolled in ESU. ESU buys time; it is not a plan.
- TPM 2.0 (Trusted Platform Module version 2.0)
- a security chip Windows 11 requires for features such as BitLocker and secure sign-in. Examples: "This PC fails the Windows 11 check because TPM is off in the firmware." Older PCs without TPM 2.0 get replaced.
- UEFI / Secure Boot (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface)
- modern PC firmware; Secure Boot uses it to block untrusted code from loading at startup. Windows 11 needs both. Examples: An older PC set to legacy BIOS mode must be switched to UEFI before upgrading. Secure Boot is turned on as part of the Windows 11 rollout.
- In-place upgrade
- upgrading the operating system on an existing PC while keeping its apps and files. Examples: Eligible Windows 10 PCs get an in-place upgrade to Windows 11. An in-place upgrade is tested on a pilot group first.
- Intune (Microsoft Intune)
- Microsoft's cloud service for managing and securing PCs and phones. Examples: Intune pushes Windows 11 updates in waves. Intune wipes a lost laptop remotely.
- Autopilot (Windows Autopilot)
- a Microsoft service that sets up a new PC automatically when the user first signs in. Examples: A new laptop ships to a remote employee and configures itself. Replacement PCs arrive registered for Autopilot.
- Entra ID (Microsoft Entra ID, formerly Azure Active Directory)
- Microsoft's cloud identity service that controls who can sign in to Microsoft 365 and other apps. Examples: Conditional access rules in Entra ID block sign-ins from risky locations. New PCs join Entra ID instead of an on-site domain.
- BitLocker (Microsoft BitLocker)
- Windows drive encryption, so a lost or stolen laptop does not expose data. Examples: BitLocker recovery keys are stored in Entra ID. Every refreshed laptop ships with BitLocker turned on.
- Windows 365 (Windows 365 Cloud PC)
- a Windows desktop that runs in Microsoft's cloud and is reached from any device. Examples: Contractors get a Windows 365 Cloud PC instead of a laptop. A Windows 10 device used to reach a Cloud PC is covered by ESU through Windows 365.
- LOB app (line-of-business application)
- software a business runs on, such as accounting, ERP, practice management or design tools. Examples: "Test the LOB app on the new server before cutover." The vendor of the LOB app must approve the new server version.
- Data sanitization
- erasing drives so data cannot be recovered before a device is reused, recycled or disposed of. Examples: Old laptop drives are wiped to a documented standard. Each retired server drive is wiped and logged.
Frequently asked questions
Is Windows 10 still supported?
No. Microsoft ended support for Windows 10 Home, Pro, Enterprise and Education on October 14, 2025. PCs still running it get no security updates unless they are enrolled in the paid Extended Security Updates program.
What does Windows 10 Extended Security Updates cost for businesses?
Microsoft lists $61 per device for year one through volume licensing, with the price doubling each year for up to three years. ESU is included at no extra cost for Windows 10 virtual machines in Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop and Azure. It is a bridge, not a plan.
Can our PCs run Windows 11?
Only if they meet Microsoft's requirements: a compatible 64-bit processor with two or more cores at 1 GHz or faster, 4 GB of memory, 64 GB of storage, UEFI firmware with Secure Boot and TPM 2.0. Many PCs from before 2018 do not qualify. BTI checks every device and gives you a list.
Should we upgrade or replace our PCs?
Upgrade PCs that meet the requirements and have useful life left. Replace PCs that do not qualify, are near the end of their warranty or are slow enough to cost staff time. Most businesses end up doing some of each.
How long does a Windows 11 rollout take?
It depends on how many devices you have, how many need replacing and how much application testing is needed. BTI sets the schedule with you after the device inventory and rolls out in groups so people keep working.
Do we need to reinstall all our software?
Not for an in-place upgrade on a qualifying PC. New PCs are set up with your applications and settings, ideally through Intune and Windows Autopilot so they configure themselves when the user signs in. Line-of-business applications are tested first.
What happens to our old PCs?
Drives are wiped to a documented standard before the devices are reused, recycled or disposed of, and the asset list is updated.
Can we finance a PC refresh?
Yes. BTI can arrange 3.99% vendor financing for 100% of the project, including equipment, labor and consulting, for qualified buyers, subject to credit approval.
Tell us how many PCs you have and how old they are. An engineer will tell you what can be upgraded, what should be replaced and what it costs. The first consultation and the initial IT assessment conversation are free. The assessment scope is set on the initial engineering consult call.
