Camera Ban - Audits Coming - Prepare

As of August 13th, U.S. federal contractors, subcontractors who do business with contractors, or those receiving federal grant and loan funding, can no longer use cameras containing Hikvision, Huawei, and Dahua chips, nor servers or NVRs with their software. These have been some of the main solutions sold by companies such as Tyco, ADT, Stanley, and most local alarm dealers. The Chinese Communist Party uses these technologies to suppress Muslims and to spy. For these reasons, they are banned. You either remove them, apply for, and get a waiver, or will fail your audit.

The interim rule, published on July 14th, set the deadline, and gave contractors guidance on how to implement the necessary changes with a one-year ramp-up period. The government will be taking comments on the new rule before September 14th, when they will decide whether to make it permanent.

How would your business look after being hacked?

According to Cybersecurity Ventures the global cost of data breaches is projected to reach $6 trillion annually by 2021. Hackers are getting bolder and more malicious in their attacks. While Healthcare and Finance have been the most popular targets, small and medium businesses are now being attacked daily as well

What you should know:

  • 2,244 hack attempts per day per internet device is the studied average (source))
  • 43% of all successful hacks were on small and medium businesses (source)
  • $3.86 million was the average cost of 524 data breaches studied by IBM (source)
  • Unmanaged and monitored networks have hackers lingering in them for 280 days mining and forwarding data before the company recognizes and contains the data breach according to IBM’s study. (source)
  • Accenture reports that the most expensive losses are information losses at $5.9 million average cost per successful breach studied (source)

This is modern warfare. With no change in sight, you need to contact BTI about providing you with monitored and managed protection.

The worst thing you can do is nothing.

SecurityToday.Com Recognizes BTI’s Great Work Protecting Healthcare
by Jeff Elliot | Aug 07, 2020

Today, there is significant increase in the number of hospitals, clinics and outpatient centers that are being built or remodeled across the country, in part due to the rise in demand for healthcare from an aging population and more access to health insurance. To accommodate this rapid growth, however, requires a sophisticated level of technology integration that goes beyond brick-and-mortar construction to the design and installation of networking, communications, electronic record-keeping and patient/staff security systems.

As a result, the healthcare industry is increasingly turning to single source technology integrators during the earliest phases of construction that can design, install and manage an integrated package of systems while coordinating with other more traditional aspects of construction.

AN INTEGRAL WHOLE

Integration, defined on dictionary.com as "an act or instance of combining into an integral whole," can be a somewhat vague concept because the combination of parts can be unending, while each individual solution is specific to the application.
